I just wondered if any of us here have learned valuable lessons whilst starting out as online markerters which they would like to pass on to other aspiring/ internet markerters.

Mine is not to buy all the products which seem to be promoted every week. Doing this just leaves you stagnant and imobilised with so many products you never will use.

Whats yours ?

I agree that in the beginning it is better to stick with one method or product.

Internet marketing is easy once you learn how. It is not luck. It takes dedication, discipline, and confidence. Do not be afraid of failure, because you will fail in the beginning. Learn from your mistakes. They are your best teacher Wink

Good luck,

I've learned to be patient and persistent...and that it's important to finish one product before you start another one.

1. don't believe all sales hype
2. 99% of IM products are rehashed material
3. Use what you buy and make sure you give it your 100%
4. Don't buy a new IM product till you have used the on you have a 100%
5. Never take figures quoted on sales pages at face value

I agree not to buy too many products until you can fully utilize the one in hand.

I am new to internet marketing. I don't know where to begin. I don't understand the pay per click things, the ad traffic generators and I don't know how to distinguish what is real and what isn't. As a newbie which medium should you focus on first? Forums? Pay per clicks? Squiddo?

I am new to internet marketing. I don't know where to begin. I don't understand the pay per click things, the ad traffic generators and I don't know how to distinguish what is real and what isn't. As a newbie which medium should you focus on first? Forums? Pay per clicks? Squiddo?

You have begun ....

1. Educate yourself ... there's a wealth of knowledge online. Tons of it here in the forum.
Just use the search function to locate. Check out the FREE stuff first.  This will better
equip you to make a decision as to whether you need to pay for something.

2. Don't spend a dime until you are educated. Overlook all the products out there that say
they'll make you rich.  In reality, they make the seller rich.

3. Ask questions here .... actually this can be under number 1.

I know it seems a little overwhelming when you just start out and don't know
a PDF from FTP. No idea how to create and publish a web page on the Net.
However, it's all fairly easy to learn and once learned will stay with you.

So ... until you learn the basics ... don't worry about the rest.

Marketing here is similar to real world marketing.  Providing a product or service.
Determining "which" of the type is important. For example: Would you try to sell toothpaste to people with no teeth?
Determining "how" to advertise this product and what it takes to do so the best way.

But ... first ... wrap your mind around the fact that it takes WORK ... real work.

You would benefit from getting with people who are in the same boat as your are. Learning straight from the Internet is certainly possible, but takes so long. Get with someone/something that teaches you the basics first. You will save a ton of time and money..

Good luck!!

The best advice I gave give is to share my #1 Rule that I follow every day in my online business...

Here is the Rule - Everything I do online, must in some way, build my list.

To me, if I can't build my list in some way, then I usually do not do it.  I always try to find a way to make it build my list.  That is why I now have an opt-in list of over 100,000 subscribers.  List building should be the foundation of every online business.

I hope this helps,

I agree with you, do not buy all of this crap that you find on the Internet.  Since I have been around for a while on the "net", there is only a couple of ways to really have success receiving income on the Internet.  The first way is having your on "professional made" website and domain name in order to have any "luck" of your site showing up in the search engines.  Of course, you can build your on website, however, that is extremely hard work.  If you have a good looking, professional made website, enriched with keywords, you will get traffic to your site an make money.  You will soon find out the "other" way to market a website and be successful!
